IP Tax Withholding
If you DO want the state to start taking taxes out of your payment, you must fill out a W-4 form to get started. The second page of the W-4 gives some instructions. In the box that asks for your “employer”, you should fill in the name of your client. Your choice to have taxes taken out does not affect your client or your client’s hours and services.
If you need help preparing your taxes, many communities have help with tax preparation at community or senior centers. If you itemize your deductions, you can deduct union dues.
How do I get tax deduction started?
You just fill out a W-4 form, and send it back in. Where the form asks for “Employer”, put the name of your client. You don’t need to put anything in boxes 9 and 10. Look at page 2 of the W-4 instructions for more help. Free W-4 forms are available through several state offices and on-line.
